The volumetric lower bound on covering numbers

ProofIntermediate⏱ 30 minHigh-Dim Probabilitycovering numbervolumelower bound

Problem

Prove that any ε\eps-net of the unit ball BdB^d in the Euclidean metric has at least ε−d\eps^{-d} points, and that a maximal ε\eps-separated set has at most (3/ε)d(3/\eps)^d. Deduce log⁡N(Bd,∥⋅∥2,ε)=Θ(dlog⁡(1/ε))\log N(B^d,\|\cdot\|_2,\eps) = \Theta(d\log(1/\eps)) for ε\eps bounded away from 11.

Write a complete argument. Every inequality you use should be one you could state precisely.
