The SVM margin bound

ProofGraduate⏱ 1 hourClassical MLsvmmargin boundrademachercontractiongeneralisation

Problem

Prove the margin generalisation bound for norm-bounded linear classifiers, and explain in one paragraph why it justifies the SVM objective rather than merely being consistent with it. Then compute the bound numerically for B=1B = 1, R=1R = 1, γ=0.1\gamma = 0.1, n=104n = 10^4 and comment.

Write a complete argument. Every inequality you use should be one you could state precisely.

Solution

Opening this before you have a real attempt on paper is the fastest way to feel like you understand something you cannot reproduce.
